Fresh seafood has so many healthy properties

Most red and white meats are very fatty and are not a
healthy way to eat. Seafood on the other hand offers you a
great tasting alternative. When cooked correctly you
couldn~t ask for a better tasting meal.

Fresh seafood does not always mean that it has not been
frozen; it sometimes means that it was frozen fresh. After
all, if you didn~t buy it frozen, you would be limited to
only a few choices of seafood instead of being able to enjoy
seafood from around the world.

If you decide that really fresh, unfrozen seafood is what
you prefer, there are a few things to look for to ensure you
are really receiving fresh seafood. The first thing you look
at are the eyes, make sure they are clear, not bulging. Next
the gills should be red, not even slightly pink. The flesh
of the fish should feel firm. Most importantly the fish
should not have a fishy smell to it. To keep the seafood
from going bad you should store it at 39 degrees and cook it
as soon as possible. Remember, if there are any doubt as to
rather seafood is fresh or not, don~t take a chance on
eating it. Seafood that has spoiled can make you very sick.

Frozen seafood should be either cooked in its frozen state
in a pan, in the oven or on a barbeque. Alternatively it
should be thawed and used immediately. You should never ever
refreeze seafood in the same way that you should not
refreeze many things at all! Fish is usually best-prepared
broiled, baked or cooked on a barbeque in foil. This gives
it optimum flavour.

Fresh seafood is generally high in protein and usually low
in fat which is ultimately why it is so good for you. There
are some varieties of seafood that do contain high fat
content but there are only a few of them, such as eel. Most
fish contain omega-3 fatty oils that can actually prevent
disease and treat illness. Eating fish regularly is actually
a very preventative health measure.

Seafood has been linked in helping the prevention of
Alzheimer~s disease, and to aid in the prevention of breast
cancer. Women in countries that eat more seafood than red
meat have a lower tendency of contracting breast cancer.
Using fish oil has also been linked to preventing some
diseases.

There are a lot of healthy benefits from eating a seafood
diet. Scallops and mussels add zinc and iron to your body.
Seafood also contains iodine, which is good for your
thyroids. Having a seafood diet is just a smart and healthy
thing to do.
